A postdoctoral researcher position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Sarah F. Andres at the Pape Family Pediatric Research Institute, Oregon Health and Science University, Portland, OR.   We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated, and dedicated Ph.D. scientist who has experience with gastrointestinal biology, extracellular vesicles, or mouse models to join our team.   The postdoc will lead projects centered around novel mechanisms that enhance or reduce intestinal damage during the neonatal inflammatory disease necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC). Ongoing projects include defining therapeutic roles of human milk extracellular vesicles in the neonatal intestine and the use of novel genetic mouse models to delineate post-transcriptional regulation in early intestinal development and NEC.   The lab uses genetic mouse models, human patient samples, including novel 3D patient-derived enteroids, cutting-edge molecular biology, -omics approaches, and imaging techniques to answer critical questions.   In addition to scientific training, the postdoc will also receive personalized mentoring to advance their own career development including networking introductions, goal setting, leadership opportunities, further training in public speaking, project management, grant, and manuscript writing, and chances to review manuscripts and attend conferences.   Our research is highly translational with the ultimate aim of taking bench findings back to educate bedside treatments and practices. The successful candidate will work independently to investigate the molecular mechanisms supporting polymicrobial pathogenesis in  dysbiotic diseases including oral cancer. He/she will be responsible for most of the planning, implementation, and data interpretation associated with his/her research. Thus, the candidate will be expected to work independently with attention to detail and strong record-keeping. The goal is to understand how polymicrobial communities influence the development of diseases via metabolic cross-feeding and signaling transduction. To achieve this goal, we are particularly interested to improve animal models used to simulate the development of oral cancer and other inflammatory conditions driven by polymicrobial communities. Typical laboratory techniques often require expertise with animal models, molecular biology skills including northern blot, western blot, protein expression/purification, coimmunoprecipitation, gene expression analysis, and targeted mutagenesis,  microbial  analysis and microscopic skills.   Demonstrable experience with animal models and microbiome studies as well as these techniques is preferred. As a postdoctoral scholar, the candidate may also be involved with the training and supervision of students and junior staff as well as play an integral role in the management and supply ordering for the laboratory. Assistance with the development and preparation of grants/manuscripts will also be expected.

The Center for Experimental Therapeutics at the Knight Cancer Institute is seeking Postdocs to join the Chemical Biology & Drug Discovery laboratory. - A postdoc position in cancer immunology is available in the lab of Dr. Megan Burger at the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute. We seek an enthusiastic and dedicated Ph.D. scientist with experience in immunology and/or cancer biology and mouse models to join our team.   The Burger Lab is focused on uncovering factors regulating T cell responses against cancer to inform the design of next generation cancer immunotherapies. We utilize genetically engineered mouse models of lung cancer paired with novel genetic tools and single-cell analysis platforms, including high dimensionality flow cytometry, single-cell RNA-sequencing, and spatial profiling to deeply investigate tumor-immune crosstalk. Mechanistic studies and preclinical immunotherapy trials in mice are complemented with analysis of human samples to facilitate potential translation of our findings to the clinic.   We are looking for a postdoc to lead projects in one of three areas: 1) antigen-driven dynamics of the T cell response and cancer vaccine strategies, 2) tumor-intrinsic mechanisms of T cell evasion, or 3) lymphocyte networks and spatial regulation of T cell responses to immunotherapy. Technical Research: Independently conduct cutting-edge research on the development and delivery of various gene correction constructs using both in vitro and in vivo models. These responsibilities include: - design and optimize gene editing constructs for targeted genome modifications, - employ iPSC derivation techniques and perform thorough characterization to ensure the quality and integrity of cell lines used in the research, - day to day maintenance of cell cultures, - perform molecular, histological, and immunocytochemical analyses to evaluate the effects of genome editing on targeted cells and tissues, - implement effective methodologies to deliver gene editing constructs into fibroblasts and iPSCs, optimizing delivery efficiency, - utilize differentiation protocols to guide iPSCs into neuronal lineage for studying gene editing effects on neuronal cells phenotype, - evaluation of on-target and off-target edits using NGS approaches, - develop and implement in vivo delivery strategies to target specific tissues and assess the efficacy of genome editing. We are seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to conduct research in areas of tumor immunology and tumor microenvironment, identifying cells and their mediators, and epigenetic mediators of inflammation that critically regulate cancer development. Specific projects will be determined by the applicant’s skill set and articulated research interests. Experience in immunology, ex vivo tissue culture-based assays, and mouse models of cancer are a requisite.   The Postdoctoral Fellow will be the primary strategist in scientific aspects of the assigned project, and in that regard may participate in supervision of some activities of research assistants, frequently taking responsibility for expensive equipment and experiment design.
