About OHSU

OHSU's singular focus on improving health starts with Oregonians and has global impact. We are the only academic health center in Oregon, but we're also nationally distinct as a university dedicated solely to advancing health sciences. This allows us to concentrate resources on research to prevent and cure disease, on education that prepares physicians, dentists, nurses and other health professionals to succeed in an evolving health care environment, and on patient care that incorporates the latest knowledge and discoveries. We have 18,000 employees and secure competitive research funding of more than $400 million a year. As a public organization, we provide community outreach and services for Oregon's most vulnerable populations. OHSU’s stated mission to improve the health and quality of life for all Oregonians through excellence, innovation and leadership in health care, education and research.

About Portland and Oregon

Bisected by the Willamette River, Portland is a vibrant city nestled among green woods and waterways. Only 90 minutes from the spectacular Oregon coast or towering Mount Hood, Portland offers the rare accessibility of snow-to-surf. Portland embraces cyclists, hikers, brewpubs, dogs, climbers, artisan coffee shops, book readers, foodies, professional soccer and basketball fans, award-winning wineries, concertgoers and paddle boarders. It’s no wonder Portland constantly ranks as one of America’s favorite lifestyle cities.
The postdoctoral fellowship focuses on neuropsychological evaluation in children with complex medical and co-occurring developmental issues (e.g., oncology, traumatic brain injury, genetic conditions, epilepsy) within the CDRC and within specialty medical clinics. These populations present with a wide range of neurological dysfunction and cognitive difficulties including problems in the areas of attention, executive functioning, memory, visuospatial reasoning, language functioning, sensory/motor functioning, and social/emotional/behavioral adjustment that afford fellows with broad-based training. Core assessment duties involve providing differential diagnosis, writing integrated reports, and providing feedback and referrals for youth (ages 1-18 years) with complex medical issues involving impact to the central nervous system. The fellow is responsible for two comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations per week.
Up to one-third of the fellow’s time may be spent in other assessment or treatment activities, such as brief neurocognitive assessments in the acute period following hospital discharge, brief psychosocial assessment within multidisciplinary specialty clinics (e.g., childhood cancer survivorship clinic, cleft and craniofacial clinic), program development, and inpatient consultation. There are also opportunities for layered supervision with practicum students.
Research activities include participation on existing projects as well as developing new and unique research projects based on area of interest and expertise. The postdoctoral fellow will have access to a multitude of career development opportunities through the CDRC and OHSU, including a full range of didactic offerings. Fellows will attend one hour per week of group supervision with pediatric psychology fellows in other specialties. Opportunities to offer community based trainings to parents and service providers are available.
