Department Overview

Research program focusing on succinate dehydrogenase subunit mutations and their role in the development of various human cancers. Our primary focus is the functional analysis of novel protein variants in human and yeast knock-out cell lines.

Function/Duties of Position

This Postdoctoral Researcher will lead an existing research program focusing on succinate dehydrogenase subunit mutations and their role in the development of various human cancers. 

  • Perform experiments utilizing appropriate lab or computational techniques with proficiency, evaluate results, and determine the next steps to complete the project and present data. Think independently and solve problems. Stay on top of scientific literature and build skills to maximize project potential.
  • Prepare manuscripts, and present research findings as abstracts or oral presentations. Travel may be required.
  • Attend weekly group meetings and 1:1 meetings to:
    • Present data and interpretation of results;
    • Troubleshoot research results;
    • Suggest next steps.
  • Attend research-related meetings. These could include but are not limited to: team meetings, seminars, and journal clubs.

Required Qualifications

Education:

M.D., M.D./Ph.D., or Ph.D.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

• Excellent communication, analytical and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team while being collaborative in resolving problems
• Passion for science and inquiry
• Ability to synthesize one’s own results and others to formulate hypotheses
• Ability to use tact and diplomacy to maintain effective working relationships

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in protein purification and protein expression analysis using immunoblotting and enzyme assays
  • Experience in gene transfer systems in human cells and yeast cells
  • Experience in cloning into expression vector system
  • Background in manipulating yeast cells
  • Ability to analyze sequencing data from deep mutational scanning experiments
  • Experience in manuscript and grant writing
