Department Overview

The Division of Vascular Surgery at OHSU provides excellent patient care while maintaining educational and research-rich programs that train surgeons and researchers and enhance their understanding of the vascular system. A special interest in quality outcomes and measurement drives much of the division¿s research they offer a 2-year vascular and endovascular surgery fellowship as well as an integrated residency program. OHSU¿s vascular surgeons operate out of the Knight Cardiovascular Institute.

 

This position will primarily work on vascular surgery projects with a special focus on Genetic Aortopathy & Arteriopathy including data from the VEDS Collaborative Natural History Study and other projects as assigned. This will include screening, consenting, and collecting data and biospecimens; entering or uploading data into the REDCap database; managing the database and updating it as needed; organizing and analyzing data for abstracts, presentations, and manuscripts. This person will assist with other papers, chapters, and grants when assigned. They will present at local and national scientific meetings. 


Successful candidates will have:

  • Prior clinical vascular or general surgery training in the US, Canada, or internationally.
  • Experience in 
    • Data abstraction
    • Statistical analysis
    • Manuscript preparation
  • Demonstrated track record of academic productivity in presentation and peer-reviewed publications

Applicants must be medical graduates with vascular or general surgery clinical training completed or in progress. North American and foreign applicants are encouraged to apply. Visa sponsorship assistance may be provided to qualified applicants. Successful candidates would receive salary and benefits through OHSU. This is a 1 year position.

Function/Duties of Position

  • Clinical Research Coordination:  screen, consent, collect data, and complete study visits as outlined in study protocols 

  • Data analysis: be able to complete basic analysis of data; be able to convey statistical needs to team; work with department biostatistician on more complex analysis; 

  • Database Management:  build and maintain REDCap databases; abstract data from electronic medical record; upload data provided by system application analyst

  • Writing: write and submit abstracts to scientific meetings; present data at meetings; organize and write manuscripts and chapters 

  • Grant applications: work with faculty to submit grants, includes writing, organizing, and submitting to department GCA required forms and documents 

  • Support OHSU Research Regulation & Policies Compliance 

  • Other Research Related Tasks Assigned: assisting with other department and division research activities when needed

Required Qualifications

  • Doctorate Degree in relevant field;

  • Experience in data abstraction from electronic health records

  • Basic statistical analysis and use of software programs such as SPSS, R, SAS, or STATA

  • Self-starter with strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize work demands

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Meticulous detail to data and study procedures

  • Ability to prioritize work demands and trouble shoot

  • Ability to work independently in a multi-task collaborative environment

  • Proficient knowledge of MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Excel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with large databases such as SVS and VQI
  • IRB submissions

  • Epic

  • Database building and management in REDCap
